Info
The Tao Te Ching was written by Lao Zi, in the 4th c. BCE., during China's Warring states period when numerous kingdoms existed
and many experiments in styles of government and schools of thought flourished. This can be seen in the texts emphasis on government and war.
even though this text was laid down around 2500 years ago it still resonates today.
In the west the Tao Te Ching is mostly viewed as a Philosophical text, to this day though, in many parts of the world Taoism is still a practiced form of religion, often practiced beside Mahayana Buddhism and Confucianism. Though I tend to approach the text from a more secular perspective, I don't want to ignore its place as an important religion.
This work is a photo artbook made for the Gameboy in GB studio. It combines original photos with the Tao Te Ching.
The text is a compilation of three different open source translations, the James Legge version, the J. H. Mcdonald version and the original Chinese. I combined and edited several translations because all of the public domain translations of the Tao that I have encountered are overly wordy and wouldn't fit on the small screen of the Gameboy nicely.
